05/09/2008 - Arlington, TX (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Brandon Boggs went 3-for-4 with a home run and three runs batted in, and the Rangers pitching staff recorded their third consecutive shutout with a 4-0 victory over the Oakland Athletics in the opener of a three-game series at Rangers Ballpark.
The Rangers, who defeated Seattle 5-0 and 4-0 in their previous two games, have not allowed a run in 31 straight innings, the second longest streak in franchise history.
Scott Feldman (1-1), making just his third career start, was once again a pleasant surprise, tossing six innings and allowing just two hits and four walks for the upstart Rangers. Jamey Wright, Joaquin Benoit and C.J. Wilson finalized the shutout with an inning of scoreless relief each.
Josh Hamilton was 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI as Texas has won four in a row and eight of its last 10.
Greg Smith (2-2), who had allowed two runs or less in each of his previous three starts, was touched for four runs on six hits and two walks in six innings for the A's, who snapped a four-game win streak.
Oakland failed to record an extra-base hit, as Jack Cust tallied two of club's four singles.
Ian Kinsler opened the bottom of the first with a rope down the left field line on Smith's first pitch of the game. He raced around for a double, stole third on a slight delay, and scampered home on Hamilton's groundout to second to score the contest's first run.
The Rangers added another tally in the second when Boggs, who dove and injured his leg diving for a foul ball in the top of the first, got a hold of a Smith fastball and launched it into the left field seats for a solo blast, his second homer of the season.
Neither team threatened until the sixth when Boggs struck again. Hamilton ripped his 11th double of the season and Milton Bradley was intentionally walked with one out.
David Murphy popped out, but Boggs drove a sharp liner to center to force in both runners for a four-run lead.
Wright and Benoit pitched perfect seventh and eighth innings, respectively, while Wilson worked around a pair of singles in the ninth to close the door on the staff's remarkable run.
